Choosing Cloth Diapers

The tried-and-true method of using a separate cloth diaper and diaper cover works better than ever with new trends in design and materials. Depending on which cloth diaper you choose, this system can give you the best leak protection (fitted diapers) or can be the most economical (prefolds).
  • Flats and Prefolds: Flat, rectangular cloth, folded to suit your baby's needs. Most economical.
  • Contours: Flat, contoured cloth shaped to fit your baby. Eliminates folding.
  • Fitted diapers: stretchy cloth with elastics around the legs and are adjustable around the waist.

Premies and Newborns

Prefolds and flats work great during the newborn stage. Simply fold (or use contoured flats) and place the cloth inside the cover before laying your baby on the diaper. Pinning isn't necessary since the prefolds tend to stay in place for newborns. Most babies outgrow the newborn sizes quite fast so buying the more expensive fitted diapers may not be worth the investment for this stage.

Older Babies and Toddlers

As your baby grows and can fit into size smalls, you can switch to fitted diapers. Fitted diapers used with our waterproof diaper covers give twice the leak protection.
