I have been making my own sunscreen for a while now and have used an oil base of shea butter and unrefined coconut oil and then added zinc oxide (15% of total substance is the Aust recommendation). i am observing that they are brilliant when dry but have a question mark when in and out of water. Does anyone know how to add a substance to help? Will beeswax do it do you think?

I adore your insights and reasearches. Very reliable! It's bad to judge if you don't know the 2 sides of the coin. It's like going for medical doctors or choosing alternative medicine. I still go for natural. God made our bodies in congruent with nature, nothing chemical. Otherwise take the consequences of your choice. Health or disease? I hope more people will discover this site thus save their health, money and our Earth. Keep it up!

I get mine from Liberty Natural. Many places that sell chemistry sets and science kits also have zinc oxide.

Hey! I just love your website! I want to make my own sunscreen, but I can't find a place where to buy zinc oxide! Can you give me some ideas? Thank you!

While I cannot speak about your whole book, I have to agree with you on some points. SPF testing keeps throwing up flaws. There are tests done as you describe them and very often commercial Sun Lotion fails these tests. I don't mind using titanium oxide, I hate the fact that commercial TD is usually nano-technology TD and not just plain old "normal" TD.

I always heard that zinc oxide was the best sunscreen ingredient. Thanks for your in-depth report - very informative.

-Danielle,
Follow my post on my personal view regarding SPF at: '<a href="http://www.wabisabibaby.com/blog/2009/is-homemade-sunscreen-for-you-part-i-sunburn-and-uvb-protection/" rel="nofollow">Is Homemade Sunscreen For You? Part I</a>' - facts and regulations included. We all have different opinions on how to care for our skin. Ultimately, each individual must decide what's best for herself. Which major EU skin care mfg are you referring to?
