I get mine from Liberty Natural. Many places that sell chemistry sets and science kits also have zinc oxide.

While I cannot speak about your whole book, I have to agree with you on some points. SPF testing keeps throwing up flaws. There are tests done as you describe them and very often commercial Sun Lotion fails these tests. I don’t mind using titanium oxide, I hate the fact that commercial TD is usually nano-technology TD and not just plain old “normal” TD.

You are giving very dangerous advice to these people. What is your background?? Physician, Bio Chemist, ?? I am confused as to why anyone would say I dont believe in SPF ratings?? OH MY GOODNESS homemade sunscreen?? Where are you getting this from, I am a licensed Esthetician who has been in Research and Devlopment for a major skin care mfg in Europe, I would never ever give advice like you are giving. Please stop some of these people will listen to you and end up harming thier skin

I don't believe in SPF ratings (see my post on SPF). Even for commercial sunscreens, unless the testing was done in the exact same conditions by the same testers across the board (not likely), current testing methods are inherently flawed and can be quite subjective. As for homemade sunscreen recipes, you need some kind of physical substance (minerals like TiO2 or ZnO). Some oils do have natural sunscreen properties but again, unreliable as the quality varies between manufacturers. All you need is zinc oxide - titanium dioxide is redundant.
